If someone asks “what cookies does your site set?”, this page gives you the answer for WP Lead Player, ready to copy into your own cookie policy.
Everything below is stored in the visitor’s own browser. None of it is sent anywhere except your own site, none of it is shared with any third party, and none of it contains an email address or a name.
| Name | Kind | How long | What it’s for |
|---|---|---|---|
wplp_known |
Cookie | 1 year | Records that this visitor has signed up, so Smart gating can skip the form. It holds the single character “1” and nothing else – no email, no identifier. |
player_id_<number> |
Cookie | Until the browser closes | Records that the opt-in form has already been shown for that video on that page, so it isn’t shown again straight away. The number is the video’s ID. |
social_<number> |
Cookie | Until the browser closes | The same thing for the Social Lock share prompt. |
wplp_viewer_prefs |
Local storage | Until cleared | The viewer’s own volume, mute, playback speed and captions choice, so they don’t have to set them again on every video. |
wplp_ab_<number> |
Local storage | Until cleared | Which version of a split test this visitor was shown, so they keep seeing the same one and the results stay honest. |
wplp_attr |
Session storage | Until the tab closes | The campaign tags and referring site from the start of this visit, so a sign-up on a later page is still credited to the right advert. |
Is this tracking?
Not in the advertising sense. There’s no third-party cookie, no cross-site identifier, and nothing leaves your site. If you switch on the Google Analytics or Meta pixel option, it speaks to a Google or Meta tag you installed yourself – the plugin never adds one.
What happens when a visitor clears their browser?
They become a new visitor. They may be asked to sign up again even though they’re already on your list. That’s the honest trade for not identifying people across devices. (Logged-in WordPress users are the exception: Smart gating can also recognise them by their account email.)
To clear these yourself while testing, see Resetting your browser to test like a new visitor.
