Player settings: size, autoplay, controls and sticky player

Each video has its own player settings on the Video Settings tab. This article walks through each one in the order you’ll see it.

Open the settings

  1. Go to WP Lead Player › Manage Videos and click Edit under the video, or start a new one in WP Lead Player › Add Video.
  2. Stay on the Video Settings tab.

Video Title

Give the video a name in Video Title. This is the name you’ll see in Manage Videos, Retention and in the data sent to your integrations.

Startup thumbnail

Under Choose startup Thumbmail (yes, the screen spells it that way), click Choose File and pick an image. This is the still picture viewers see before the video plays.

This isn’t the same as your logo, which is set once for the whole site (see Adding your logo to every player).

Video Size

Enter the Width and Height in the two boxes, for example 640 and 360. Both are needed: the video won’t save without them.

Both are in pixels. The player is responsive anyway: the width is a maximum, and on a narrow screen the video shrinks to fit while keeping the shape of your two numbers. Think of it as “the largest it should ever be, and its shape”.

Autoplay

Set Autoplay to YES to start the video as soon as the page loads, or NO to wait for the viewer to press play.

An autoplaying video always starts muted. That isn’t the plugin’s choice: browsers refuse to start a video with sound the viewer didn’t ask for. Viewers can unmute it from the control bar. This applies to all three sources.

If you want sound from the first second, set Autoplay to NO and let viewers press play. Also bear in mind that autoplay plus an opt-in form at the very beginning asks viewers to sign up before they’ve seen anything, which usually converts worst of all.

Allow Pause

Set Allow Pause to YES to let viewers pause, or NO to stop them pausing. With NO, the pause button stays on the control bar, but the video starts again the instant a viewer presses it. Overlays such as the opt-in form can still pause the video.

Hide Controls

Set Hide Controls to YES to hide the player’s control bar, or NO to show it. The Manage Videos list shows this setting in its Hide Controls column.

Sticky player (following the viewer down the page)

Choose from the Sticky player dropdown:

  • No — leave this video where it is
  • Yes — follow the viewer down the page

With the sticky player on, when someone scrolls past while the video is playing, it shrinks into a corner and keeps going. Anything set to appear partway through (the opt-in, call to action, social lock or HTML overlay) still reaches them, rather than firing at an empty screen above their head.

  • It never follows a video that’s paused.
  • If the viewer closes it, it stays closed.
  • Which corner it docks into is set once for the whole site (see Choosing where sticky videos dock).

Save

Click SAVE AND CLOSE to go back to the list, or SAVE AND CONTINUE EDIT to keep working.
